so i did my first snowcamp in the sierra and i learned a couple of things:make sure you pack the snow down so its level for your tent otherwise slip n slide all night, you need a book, your feet get cold.
I realized fast that getting out of the tent is a pain in winter and that cold feet suck.By chance i brought some big mittens that i slipped over my feet and that worked but my heels were cold.So i am thinking about getting some booties but dont know what i should get and what will suffice.I want to wear these in my bag as well as use around camp.Need them for snow and summer camping. What about the soles?

i have had really decent service from an old pair of goretex socks. i wear them over my sleepy-socks (not My name for them, i assure you … ) and that keeps feets warm on outside-the-tent adventures.
sure, they get the occasional hole, which i patch with mcnett.
they don;t weigh much, and are free, considering that i already had them and they about useless as an outer sock for trekking.
good for crossing the odd creek as well.
keep in mind that whatever goes outside, probably does not want to go inside the sleeping bag.
also own a set of ID puffy booties. Waaayyyy hecka warm. best worn with a liner sock to let them slide on/off easy.
camp soles need be nothing more than coated cordura type packcloth. mcnett fixes everything.
cheers,

Dave…..There are a few ways to keep those feet appendages warm.
I have used TOTES/Mountaineering Overboots over my over synthetic/down insulated booties, down socks (Goose Feet, Feathered Friends, Nunatak, or 40 Below Camp all make Booties…to name just four) or a pair of dry wool sock after XC/Snowshoeing/Mountaineering before/and after setting up camp.
This video NOLS I believe will help visualize the NOLS way of keeping your feet warm …….. it does work.
I took the plunge to get a set of Goose Feet booties…and I'll never, ever go back! They are so light I don't even notice them, and pretty much take them with me year round (except the very heat of summer). I bought the overbooties for those midnight pee trips…not the most stable of walking surfaces but fine for just putzing about camp and going to the bathroom.
Some people like Feathered Friends…I went with Goose Feet and am VERY, VERY happy with Ben's work. You have more choice of materials and amount of down and what not, and Ben was wonderful to work with in terms of advice and customer service.
I've recently gotten a pillow and a custom pillow case from Ben. Awesome service and great quality. So, if you are looking for the lightest possible down booties, then the GooseFeet down would be a great choice.
I went with the Feathered Friends. Somewhat more robust fabrics and soles on the outer booty covers plus more down fill (4 ounces).
Both brands use a down filled inner booty/sock and a slip on outer cover for walking around. The idea is to take the outer cover off when inside the tent or sleeping bag.
Sounds like you either had too short of a mattress or only used one. Booties are nice, for me if standing/sitting around, use a sit pad under them too. They do make down socks.

I went a rather expensive route, but quite happy with my decision. I bought the WM Expedition booties, they're fabulous. But they have no removable shell, so I bought just the outer bootie shell from FF, and I use it with my WM booties.
Works for me.
I just ordered a pair of WM booties from hikelight.com, $55 delivered. For a couple of ounces I will make cheap overshoes shoes from Walmart blue foam and packing tape for use around camp.
