The Cowlitz and Skamania sheriff’s offices are asking for the public’s help in finding a Japanese man who hasn’t been seen since he set out a week ago to climb Mount St. Helens.
Authorities believe Yosuke Onishi, 26, set out last Wednesday, Nov. 27, from Climber’s Bivouac, according to a press release. No one has seen or heard from Onishi since then, and Skamania County search and rescue crews haven’t found him.
According to the press release, a woman told a Cowlitz County sheriff’s deputy that she hitch-hiked with Onishi to Cougar on Nov. 26. She said she left the area Nov. 27 and believed Onishi planned to find a ride up to Mount St. Helens.
