Which down hood do you like for sleeping in a quilt, and why? I will be also wearing something over my face to keep my eyes and nose warm when sleeping, and wear that during the day, most likely a thin, one ounce fleece cap. The hood will often be too warm for day use.

So far, these are what I've found:

I like Zpack which is made by GooseFeet Gear…it's light at 1.2 oz and great pice of gear! I have not tired any hoods by any other outfit, but I looked and asked around before I bought the one from Zpacks. You could also email Ben at GFG and ask him to build you the same one that he sales to Zpacks, but both company's are great to work with!

I bought the Goosefeet hood through Z-Packs. Does exactly what I wanted it to. Moves with me as I toss-n-turn. No issues with cold air gaps where it meets the bag. I use a light fleece beanie to keep my long hair contained and to keep the hood clean. It didn't come with a stuff sack but I stuff it in with my down pants that I use at night, and that works fine. I occasionally have gotten too warm, so I'm looking to ditch the beanie and get one of those breathable food-service "shower caps" that I can put over my hair, to protect the hood. I haven't tried any other hoods.

> I think a down hood could be used in daytime for improving the warmth of a down jacket. No?

> Kelly, I like your idea of a head cover to keep the hood clean. BRILLIANT!

C'mon, help me here. I need just one more reason to buy a down hood.

'C'mon, help me here. I need just one more reason to buy a down hood."

I have one and it is the best luxury 1.5 oz I every bought.

Muum…only one more reason huh?

OK, then excellent pot cozy! Ka-ching, sold!

100 times better than the equivalent weight of almost anything else. Id still wrap your pot/bag/Tupperware in something else like a spare item of clothing, at least for the first few minute after poring the boiling water to make sure you doing melt anything. Someone on here will know what the safe temperature for contact with the nylon is. After you are done it is all toasty inside, ready to wear. Win-win.

Also, try not to spill, you don't want a griz to specifically target your head for investigation one night.
