So, last night I created a vapor barrier liner for my sleeping bag. I simply took two compactor bags and cut out the bottom of one of them. Then I attached them with clear, packing tape.

Has anyone ever done this before? It seems to be a perfect fit. Any drawbacks of going this route?

Quick, easy, and cheap way to test out VBL sleeping. Only drawback is if you use puffy clothing to supplement your sleep system then it will be inside your VBL and accumulate a lot of moisture. You could wedge between the VBL and sleep bag but it's slightly more awkward.

plus one for the VBL suit, allowing/protecting insulation worn over it. RE earlier thread about (not waterproof) tyvek suit, mine is a polyurethane coated tyvek "pesticide spray" tyvek. Not UL, but muy available & meno costoso. Didn't mind any "clammy" but get used to the bracing experience of stripping to moist longjohns in the cold am when you exit bag, then put warm clothes (back)on. Take comfort knowing how well protected those clothes ar3.

I was worried about my other layers getting wet.
So, who makes a VBL suit?

Lukes Ultralight makes a silnylon rain jacket and pants. I know Borah Gear makes eVent socks so you could ask them if they'd make a silnylon pair for you. You could just use bread bags for this purpose too.

I'm not familiar with compactor bags. However, I used a .25 cent 72" long garment bag from the dry cleaners. Weighs 1.56 oz. Works great. I would like to have a VBL top and bottoms though to wear under my down pants and jkt for those really cold trips. .34 oz cuben would be great…albeit pricey.
