Oh, now I know what you mean: “Go thou and enter into the hottest hell thou canst find, put on the thickest black woolen garments thou canst buy, and see how long a distance thou canst run at top speed without imbibing in any type of liquid refreshment.” That sounds like good, clean adventure, but I’m currently too busy trying to kill myself with kindness.

Re: "I know all about the physics of black bodies." I greatly envy Mr. Davidson because I don't know "all about" anything. I act like I do, but that's a separate issue. I hope Mr. Davidson will someday find the time to answer a nagging little question that I have wondered about for a long time: "What is the origin, Ultimate Meaning, and final fate of the Universe / Metaverse." Some say the the answer is "32," but they don't say whether or not that is 31.9999 rounded up. Personally, I think "69" is closer to the correct answer.

It's 42 and Douglas Adams (were he alive) can back me up on this.

Back to your libations.

Before you get too carried away with those woolly Bedouins, be advised that they are an extremely hardy bunch — meaning creature comforts figure low on their list of priorities.

But living in similar dry heat, the fun-loving and soft-living Egyptians wisely turn to cotton! Fine Egyptian cottons are famous the world over.

Sure, the Bedouins are nomad herders and traders — but imported stuff are almost always much more expensive — and thus, cotton and silk finery never figured prominently in the typical Bedouin male wardrobe. One suspects the harem wardrobe may be very different though. Women are smarter. :)

The Bedou said: itnane arba – sitta tisah

( 24-69 )

Who could argue that?

(Well, the Shell Answer Man did saythe answer is Platformate, but he's one of those compensated endorsers)

Maas Salama,

But in Hebrew, we have the precise, measured, agonized, argued over, annotated, venerable Talmudic answer: arba׳eem ush'tayeem. However, the Shell Answerman was on the right track.

Back to the Thread!

I have been wearing an Ibex 200 crew long sleeve shirt in a steel blue even during summer hikes in the San Gabriels in Southern California. These mountains ring LA and are usually dry and hot in the Summer. I have been on hikes in the 90's many times trudging up 1500' gains in 2 miles and found that I am fairly comfortable in the Ibex. Less so than the times I have worn a light coolmax ultra long sleeve shirt, but nevertheless still comfortable.
The benefits are as have been listed: Absorbent, good UV protection, non-itchy, good temperature control, and most importantly, wool does not stink. And in 90 degree temps, synthetics are an abomination when it comes to smell. Rinsing a synth shirt in a stream at the end of a long day in the heat kills or scares the fish away.
