Hello… looking for beta on which of these two stellar parkas are the warmest…

both are 250 g fill wt in XL…
FF- epic
GF- M90 v2

FF- weighs 559g
GF- weighs 465g

My use will be PNW winter ski touring/backpacking.. any real world experience with both out there?

I am lucky enough to currently have both in my basement right now.. and will release one.. obviously there are other factors involved.. build, packability, etc.. any assistance in my decision will be appreciated..

thanks

The GF will be far warmer due to the box wall construction for starters, its probaly a bit longer than the Helios, where as the Helios may be more durable and water restiant.

Since you have both do the ice cube test …

Take 2 same sized ice cubes and put em in a bowl under the jacket

Whichever melts first is the less insulating one

Of course this doesnt account for fit, wind, etc … Which can make more of a difference

850 vs 900 fill … Marketing blabber … Who knows what test was used or the conditions of the test … Id actually pay money if someone could tell the difference in a series of double bilnd test with the exact same jacket filled with 850+ vs. 900 down

Only real world usage will tell you what is warmer for YOU

the box construction is really nice.. but the FF's build quality is top notch, better imo than the GF.. but the GF's shell material is not as burley as FF's epic.. but it's not supposed to be.. the GF weighs about 100g less and packs down better..

What I don't know yet is which will cut alpine wind better..

I don't recall uisng the GF piece in strong wind but did use it down to -13f and was warm enough doing camp chores.
