I' m 6'4" tall and trying to decide between the purchase of a Cuben Fiber MLD Duomid and a Supermid. If I purchase the Duomid, I'm also planning to purchase an Oooknest for it. (An Oooknest does not appear to be available for the Supermid.) I will use the pyramid for approximately 14 nights per year and as an emergency shelter. I want four walls around me, so i've ruled out a tarp. On the one hand, I want as light a shelter system as possible and, on the other hand, I want to be comfortable, especially on the occasions that my wife joins me on a trip. It seems that the Duomid may be the best option, but I'm not certain that it will be comfortable given my height. I would appreciate advice from the forum. Thanks in advance!

Maybe Chris S will chime in. He's >6 ft and has mentioned to me that his Duomid is too short unless he sleeps in it diagonally.
from the MLD website
for the Duomid
For Solo use, angle the pole off center a few inches for more room or for tall users over 6\'1\" and up to 6\'4\" to sleep at a slight diagonal
for the inner
Solo not recommended for users over 6'3" or the DUO with two users if either user is over 6"2.
From my experience with the Locus Gear Khufu, which at 265cm x 160cm x 130cm high (see http://locusgear.com/products-2/shelter/khufu-ctf3?lang=en ) is very similar in size and design to the DuoMid, and given your height, if you go with the DuoMid (or the Khufu) you will want to use a Dual Pole Tip Extender (DPTE) (with two hiking poles), see
http://locusgear.com/products-2/accessories/dpte?lang=en
Either CF at 84gm, or alu at 120 gm.
This is really effective, though admittedly a little more hassle in setting up, than using just a single pole. When you are sleeping solo, it will allow you to sleep on an angle to the long axis of the tent, to give you more effective length, and will also provide you with much more unencumbered inner space. When you are sleeping duo, the advantages will be even more noticeable.
As an alternative to the SuperMid, you might also consider the Locus Gear Khafra, which is 280m x 280cm x 170cm high, see http://locusgear.com/products-2/shelter/khafra-sil?lang=en .
at 6 ft 4 and wanting a mid your selection is a bit limited IMO I am 6 ft 5 and have been searching for the perfect shelter fro a while now. I have been playing with Flat tarps (8.5×8.5, 8.5×10), Shaped tarps (Cirraform, Trailstar), Hexamid Long Tent, and most recently the HMG Ultamid 2. If you want a mid with 4 walls I would suggest the Ultamid as I believe that it is a bit longer than the MLD and I know that I fit well on a Synmat7. Not a ton of extra length but I do not rub the walls.
I need up adding the bug skirt, which means that I do not have an inner for it.
Feel free to shoot me a PM with any direct questions
Best,
Jeff
Robert,
My chief complaint with all the pointy top shelters is water coming in when the door is open. I like the cross poles of, for example, the MSR Hubba Hubba design type which keep rain out when the door is open.
Robert,
I can't speak to the Supermid since I've never owned one however I've had both the solo and duomid. The solo was great with it's small footprint, ease of setup, lightweight and relatively small packed size. However, after a couple weeks worth of nights in the solo I realized I wanted more room. I was willing to shell out a few more dollars and carry a little more weight for the added "luxury" of a duomid. Now that I own the Duo I couldn't be happier. It's the same length as the solo but it's quite a bit wider which allows me to sleep at a slight angle without either side touching the walls. I'm 6'2" and 225 lbs so I'm a bigger guy for sure. I really enjoy the extra space since now I can fit my pack inside with me and it feels like a "liveable" space if I had to wait out a rain storm. I think you'd have to sleep at quite an angle if you went with an inner since you'd be losing at least a couple of inches.
Hope that helps some.
Erik
Thank you for all the replies. The advice was very helpful!
Check out Tony Hobbs on You tube who has 2 videos on the supermid. He has lots of gear review for MLD. Oh, and Gizzy has returned. : )
