I know I posted up something like this about 6 weeks ago or so but just wanted to clarify this a bit more.

For stuff that is ePTFE you have to keep cleaning it to make sure the holes are clean so it can 'breathe'.

For PU type stuff you keep having to apply the DWR so the fabric 'breathes'.

The Micropore stuff is good for breathing but really fragile and you would probably have to keep cleaning it.

The stuff that is a coated fabric and is fully waterproof doesn't 'breathe' at all.

All of them are waterproof even though they may 'wet out'.

You can get around something not 'breathing' by using pit zips and mesh pocket or just opening up the jacket.

The DWR reapplication also applies for the ePTFE/event stuff as well. If the face fabric is water logged, sweat vapor/air isn't going to pass through as well or at all.

That said, some DWRs work really well and others don't. Whatever factory applied DWR that was on my OR Helium I jacket didn't wet out even after 5 hours in moderate/heavy rain, while an REI event jacket I used to have would wet out after an hour, and the Stoic Vaporshell would begin wetting out with the first drop of rain (after applying Atsko permanent waterguard, it shed water much better).
