Velcro hooks tearing up fabric?

Going for the nomination for "most obscure and uselessly specific BPL thread."

Velcro annoys me, because fabrics like Cordura get really fuzzy as the hook side pulls at the threads. I know over time, it'll be actual wear that will break down the bag. Is there a way to prevent this with a laminate or something, like painting the afflicted areas with a glue or silicone?

Wondering if anyone else has a similar peeve and a potential solution. Thanks!

Sew a section of "loops" to one end of the "hooks".
Peel it back when you need the hooks to do their job.

Oh, neat, that'd make it optional to have it velcro-ed shut or not, too.

Thanks.

If you want to be real spiffy, sew some fabric to the back of the loops to soften it's edges as well.

I really like the idea of covering the velcro, but… I'm still keen on painting a "slippery" surface on the pack where the velcro contacts the cordura, and doing double-duty by making the fuzzy areas svelte again. Any suggestions on a liquid plastic or whatever that'll go on wet, but soak into the fabric and dry smooth and flexible?

Also, gotta be freezing-proof… I go to cold places.

If you think Velcro on fabric is bad, try Velcro on tent netting!

Cheers

I "painted" the fuzz down with Sil-Net. If I remember, I'll update this thread in a few weeks with an update on whether or not it worked…
