I did a search and found a couple mentions of the Uniqlo Heattech base layers. We have a friend involved with figure skating and she swears by the stuff.

I assume it is polyester using their proprietary yarns. They claim it warms as it absorbs perspiration and it conforms better to body shape and movement. It has anti-odor properties as well. Sounds like just the stuff for hikers.

Does anyone have experience with these products? I'm curious about comparative weights, etc.

They make a full line of tops and bottoms for men, women and children. Men's tops and bottoms are ~$20 each on the company website, which seems very reasonable.

Hi Dale,

I was gifted a long sleeve top that I have used as a sleep layer. I have not had an occasion to wear during strenuous activity so I can't comment on its moisture transfer abilities. I can say I haven't felt clammy sleeping in it. The sizing seems relaxed and it feels very comfortable for a synthetic layer. It seems to pass the test for anti-odor too. It has replaced my Hot Chillys base layer top. I now carry it on almost all trips.

I bought some at the NYC store a few years back. I didn't find it to be much different than anything similar.

It's definitely not merino comfort or warmth IMHO, and the usual stink factor of synthetics applies. It's not particularly light either.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Uniqlo, but these didn't do anything for me, however, I really like wool baselayers, if you can't stand those, this may be an option.
