WE ARE NOT LICENSED GUIDES AND THIS IS NOT A COMMERCIAL SERVICE, but if you have gear and want a shorter walk with people please come along. It is recommended that beginners not bring minors or dogs.

GPS: 34.408769,-94.028077

A quick summary of the trip and then the details:

We will backpack the Buckeye Trail on Saturday, camp near Katy Falls that night, and backpack out on Sunday to our cars.

I always drive out to these trips on Friday evening after work. We will have a lot going on Saturday without adding a long drive to the trip. You will be expected to be self-sufficient once we leave the cars. There is a stream where we will be camping on Saturday but there are no facilities at all near the trail. We will hike about five miles each day. That’s a relatively short distance over rough terrain. I expect the weather to be mild but watch the news. I use Mena, Arkansas for my reference point. http://www.wunderground.com/weather-forecast/US/AR/Mena.html The cell reception is spotty out there but not non-existant. Bring your own food: Breakfast x2, Lunch X2, and Dinner x1. Bring at least two liters of water and a way to treat the stream water.

Below is a google map to the trail head:

If you end up being addicted to all this like we are, we plan longer trips all year long (especially when it rains).

We do these in the spring and the fall. One of my best hiking partners, Shawn, planned this one, and most of the above text is from his facebook event. Below is a little more info including his contact. I'll check this thread and up until about 16:00 Central time on Friday. I'm planning on about a dozen people of varied experience. Sorry I didn't think of this forum till tonight, but it's been warm and my mind has been on canoes.

Ask questions here so others can see the reply. They may have the same questions and you are likely to get more than just my answer. Otherwise, I can be reached at resistnine@gmail.com or text 817-914-5669
