Looking down Matukituki Valley from Cascade Saddle, Mt Aspiring National Park, New Zealand. At the time only my second multi-day hike & still my favourite.

Jun 21, 2007 at 10:52 pm #1393024No unfortunately, Milford still on the todo list! Living in the north island makes hiking in the south island a little trickier.
This one is up on the saddle proper, camping in front of the Dart Glacier. This was early autumn so despite all the ice in the picture it wasn't particularly cold (eg well above freezing overnight).

Isn't there some great sea kayaking round about Nelson or Picton, just a short trip from Wellington?
Planned a trip to the S. Island back in the early 1990s but had to cancel due to medical conditions. Was really looking forward to the Milford Track. Had a reservation for the huts and everything. Someday maybe…
