What is the purpose of feet on esbit stoves? Is it mainly to protect the ground from scorching?

…I believe that the feet raise the Esbit tab off the ground, where the temps are lower. Therefore, it minimizes the heat sink effect and enhances the burn. Placing a disk of titanium foil under the Esbit stove helps here as well, by reflecting the stove's heat back up.
