I can't seem to find Light weight wind pants with full side zips.
Like Houdini pants but with full side zips…
Anyone have recommendations?
thanks

I think the best you're gonna get for full zips is a waterproof breathable piece. This sounds like it does not exist.
If you're handy, size up a wind pant, cut a line, hem it, and then put about 8-10 plastic snaps in the hems to attach the two halves. With merino boxer shorts, you wouldn't be arrested for public indecency. Plus, you could open just some of the snaps to vent. Dunno about wind performance with an open hem, though. Might still be enough to be worth it.
Montbell makes absolutely tiny snaps. Not heavy. Much less than a zipper.
Brainstorming!
Wind pants with full side zips have been made, but I can't give you a current make/model. UL may be a stretch. The lighter unlined track pants are in the 6oz range and the ones with full side zips are typically heavier cloth, so 8oz+ wouldn't surprise me– might as well have the pull-on Houdinis. For reference, my Marmot Precip side-zip XL rain pants are 12oz.
Wind pants work for the wind/light precip needs, but durability suffers. Imagine sitting on your windshirt or exposing it to the rocks/roots/snags at ankle level. I can make a case for them if worn with really light running shorts; otherwise, you might as well wear some sort of Supplex pants or zip-offs.
Only 4.2 ounces and they have full side zips. Wicked expensive, but I have seen them on sale at the Clymb every so often.
Excellent find! I see that Prolite Gear has them on sale for $85 in several sizes. http://www.prolitegear.com/camp-magic-pants.html
But the description says: •Knee-height zippers allow pants to be put on over shoes
Not full length side zips… :(
Still looking for full length size sips on wind pants… of any weight…
(I have a pair several decades old with nearly more duct tape patches showing than nylon :) Time for a new pair…
thanks,
Bill D.
Must be an older model—- the description on the Camp site states full side zips. It might be worth an email to Prolite to clarify.
