I'm planning on buying one of the synthetic quilt kits at thru-hiker but I'm sort of at a loss as to which material to use. They have pertex quantum, m50, m90v2 and v3. I want something that is comfortable against the skin and as breathable as possible obviously. I also want something durable that will last as I am not a use a few times and discard kind of person.

If it matters I will be using the quilt in the upper midwest and on a possible PCT thru hike next year.

Thanks

I used M90 on the outside and the M90 taffeta on the inside. so far so good. not as light as M50 but cheaper

If you want the most breathability go m90v3. The others are much less breathable. No first hand experience with quantum

I just bought some M50 for a down quilt project and so far I am pleased with the fabric. I think it is an appropriate choice for quilts/sleeping bags, assuming you are willing to be gentle with your gear. Particularly if you are using synthetic insulation, the permeability shouldn't be an issue. I did some simple tests when I got the fabric and the water resistance is surprisingly high. I will admit, however, that the fabric is slightly more difficult to work with than M90.

Like many UL gear choices, it comes down to weight vs. durability. I think considering the fact that the quilt rarely comes in contact with much other than your tent floor/ground sheet, pad, and body, this is area where I'm willing to push the durability issue, even for a thru. Good luck!

I would use M50 personally to save weight, but M90 is really a nice feeling fabric.
