i've shown interest on a FS post in the gear swap forum but the seller will not reply.
nor has he written a PM address in his profile.
what is the best way to contact the user to go ahead with the purchase?

The OP may be out of town and unable to access the site or only does so irregularly.
If you posted a question, or better still, an "I'll take it" to the thread and the OP does not reply within 2-3 days, does not have PMs enabled, or did not list his email address in preference to using PM, you can do nothing more. Forget it and move on. It is his loss.
There are also used gear forums at NWHikers.net and Whiteblaze.net
You're replying to a thread that's 5 months old. His four posts in the thread are the only four posts this person has on BPL. He probably sold it elsewhere and hasn't returned to BPL.
