Hello Everyone,
I've had a Gatewood Cape for a while now, but when my backpacking was limited to Michigan I wasn't exposed to day long rain like I am now that I'm in the mid-atlantic area.
Anyway, my cape worked great as a shelter in heavy rain, but hiking 1/2 a day in a downpour I noticed that my hiking shorts are about the same height as the cape and thusly wicked up the water and that water not wicked up by my shorts was collected by my socks and I was eventually walking in puddles.
Basically I was soaked, and not from sweat, but rain getting sucked in. Aside from buying rain pants, which defeats the dual-purpose use of the cape are there other strategies that you have found that help keep you dry when using your cape as rain gear? I'm assuming poncho fans also have similar issues.
Thanks,
Gary
