My 12 y/o daughter and I are hiking the Wonderland next week. She's a strong hiker but her feet are soft. I'm using a liner type sock but I'm concerned about doing the same for her. Up to this point she's hiked with mid weight wool socks.

For those of you like Manfred (hope I spelled your name right) who have been on some long hikes with your kids, what kind of socks are you using for your kids?

We've been hiking and backpacking with our kids (age 8 and 13 now) for years. Smartwool brand in kids sizes have been the standard for us – partly for the padding, more so for the warmth if they get wet. They're hard to find on sale in hiking-height on Sierra Trading Post, but I have gotten some deals on skiing-length Smartwool socks in kid's sizes, especially off season. I keep a large box of too-large clothing that the kids will grow into.
