I really wanted a Squeeze to lighten up from my current system which was a Sawyer 2L gravity. I had chopped it and gotten it down to 11.2 oz.

My point is that with the Sawyer Squeeze, 2L mylar bag and syringe it weights 7.6 oz
Is this normal? Did I just give up $55 for 3.6 oz?

Just Curoius. What are some of the weights that others are experiencing?

By the way I ran water thru it, but drained it as throughly as possible.

You dont have to carry the syringe. I use a platy plusbottle with mine instead of their 2l bag.

I don't have the squeeze, I have the older in line filter. which weighs just under 4 oz wet. The syringe wasn't included in my kit but I did buy one (60ml, which I believe is larger than the squeeze syringe) and it weighs an ounce. The mylar bag is probably under an ounce. REI lists the weight of the squeeze with a 1L mylar bag at 3oz (dry).

Your 7.6oz weight doesn't make sense. Are you sure the measurement is correct? Try weiging each item individually.

I agree you almost certainly don't need to carry the syringe. Unless you are dealing with uber-silty water sources you can just backwash when you get home. You can cut out a circle from a gold coffee filter and place it under the washer on the Sawyer's inflow (dirty) end for a weightless pre-filter to catch bigger chunks.

Dry Sawyer Squeeze and 900ml Evernew bladder = 117g (4.1oz). I replaced the push/pull cap with a cap from a Smartwater bottle.

And I have never carried the syringe.
