I am 6ft 5 inchs tall run about 175, so lean is the word, and the down layers are for sleeping!! I get cold easy. I am also pretty committed to my coffee filter and separate cup. The Aquafina set is a one liter bottle that nests in the larger bottle that I have cut off just above the 32 oz line. I also have this wrapped in duct insulation with an additional lid made from insulation. I use the cut off larger bottle as a scoop for water in shallows, I also use it with the lid as a cooking cozy

Not included would be my ditty bag with small sunscreen, Deet, toothbrush/dehydrated toothpaste,TP

    Clothes worn
    OR hat
    Buff
    Oakley Sunglasses
    Top and bottom pending
    Moreno boxer brief (stoic)
    Innov8 barefoot shoe/5 fingers/Brooks Pure Grit
Ruta Locura Yana 3 piece carbon poles

    Thoughts??

    Opportunities??

    Thank you,

    Jeff

    A) I'm impressed and envious.
    B) I keep checking but it seems as though alky stoves are out for the JMT because of the burn ban…methinks you are stuck with a canister……

If you sleep cold, does it make more sense to take a warmer quilt and NOT need down pants? Just a question, I don't know the answer to that.

You'll be passing me by as I go SOBO…ill be the pasty white chubby chick huffing along……..

    Jennifer,

Thank you for the feedback .

I keep thinking the same thing about the stove. I called the Whitney ranger station yesterday and when asked directly about the alky stove I was told it is ok for the JMT. I have a Snow Peak LiteMax Ti that I will probably switch to if, they rule out both Alky and Esbit. I think you are right, and it is time to start figuring out fuel efficiencies for the canister

I have gone back and forth on the pants vs warmer quilt. Tim estimated a 10 degree long reg at 26.5 oz. If I subtract 1.5 oz using 10D throughout, I would still be around 24 oz. My quilt and pants is 24.9 as I would bring the down top either way. My weight penalty is about an ounce and living in shorts on the trail, I will have the comfort of my insulation layer in the early morning while enjoying my coffee and breaking camp. Not to mention I would probably end up using my quilt a lot more if the wife saw another piece of gear come into the house. (aka sleeping in the dog house)

    Good luck on your SOBO!!!

I chose to take my Snow Peak LiteMax on my recent JMT trip due to the ambiguity of Forest Service regulations. I did see a large number of PCT hikers using their alky stoves, however. Not sure what to suggest.
