Just got my Rainshadow 2 today. I went ahead and set it up. Wow, I am impressed with the interior space of the tent.

When I got home, I weighed the various components in grams / oz :

Stuff sack for Rainshadow 2 (9.75" x 24") 24 0.846575777
Rainshadow 2 tent only (no stuff sack) 1070 37.74317007
Poles for Rainshadow 2 143 5.044180673
Stakes, 4 Easton aluminum 6" 36 1.269863666
Stakes, 2 Shepherd hook titanium skewers 12 0.423287889
Total weight of Rainshadow 2 shelter, in stuff sack 1285 45.32707808

I will be making a polycro groundsheet to fit the tent. I'm guessing this will add around 3 oz, bringing the total shelter weight to around 3 lbs. This is including 2 extra stakes (titanium skewer) for the side pullouts.

I'm thinking, though, the shelter weight could go down a bit. The poles weigh 5.0 oz. Does anyone know if there is a carbon fiber option for poles that could cut that in half?

Finally, does anyone have advice on seam sealing the tent? On his website, Henry advocates the use of GE Silicone II

http://www.tarptent.com/faq.html

I've actually only sealed a tent once (a Lunar Duo), but I used a syringe and McNett Seam Grip diluted with something or other, if I recall correctly. In the video, Tarptent is using a foam brush to paint on the sealant, which seems like a better strategy.

Thoughts?

David,

I own 2 of the RS 2 tents and my dad owns one as well.
I have seam sealed all three per Henry's instructions with no issues.

Simple and effective.

Also you might add in 2 more Ti skewer stakes-
Once you set up the tent place them at the place where the rear pole meets the grosgrain eyelets. Pull back on the pole end and nce you have some tension place the skewer in front of the pole end/grosgrain.You can use them to add some additional tension to the floor and side this way.

On another thread Robert Van Putten commented :
"All I need to do now is figure out how to run a clothesline inside the thing! Nothing to hang a flashlight or wet socks from inside "
If you must, it can be done :
RS II clothes line
The line starts at the mid grommet under the cross apex strut (through the zip…)
and connects to a line strung between the corner mitten hooks.
A trekking pole (could be a stick) holds the line up at the back.
Not necessary if you only use the first 3 feet from the apex.
(just in case : if you use a stick put some cloth under it so as not to punch a hole in the floor and to help the stick stay up. A pack against it would also help or you could just have the line going over a pack)
BTW, this RS II is set up inside on carpet so not as taut as it should be.
