    Hey there! I have never hiked in the White Mountains, NH before but I am planning on a weekend hiking trip there this weekend. Anything I should be aware of? Is it the dreaded "black fly" season there right now?
    Thanks
    Evan

    @evanchartier

    I called the park ranger station, they said the following regarding some questions that I had:

    Permit? Can get a week pass for $5
    Bear Can? Not required but recommended, can get one for free at the ranger station via their loan program
    Black flies? There is a little bit of everything right now- bring your bug spray!

    Just in case it would help anyone else. Anyone have thoughts about these topics or others regarding the White Mountains in NH this weekend?

    Thanks!
    Evan

    Depending on how many days you can get a week parking pass or $3 for one day if you're only staying out for one night that should be fine.

    you don't need a bear can.. hang your food or some shelter/campsite areas have bear boxes to use (mostly where the AT is) shelters and some campsites are $8/person
