Custom water pockets

I apologize for jacking your thread but I am going to make some pockets that attach to the compression straps to fit a 1L platy on each side. I'll be making them myself but I think this would be a good thread for the MYOG. It could be titled, "Pimp my Artic 1000 pack".

I have no idea who does custom work. Maybe you can order the materials and find a good seamstress locally?

If you're in the SF Bay area there's a place on San Pablo Ave. in Berkeley, called Narain's. They're just north of (and across the street from) REI. They do great work. Ive had them repair sleeping bags, put a new floor in my usta-be-favorite tent and additional windows in another tent. I highly recommend their work. They also have a wide variety of nylon cloth of many styles, types and colors.

If you want to use an old Gatorade or sports drink bottle then you could probably rig up bottle holders to fit on the pack straps. I know this isn't a custom pocket, but it is an alternative way to carry your water that may work well. ULA offers this as an option on their other packs. Hopefully I will be doing this for my Arctic pack.

Thanks Nicholas. That is a great suggestion to create a thread, and thus, I have made it happen over at MYOG.

I will be interested in seeing what ideas people come up with to make this interesting pack even better. Please post some of those pictures of your pocket designs. I will be very interested to see them.

Thanks for the suggestion. I like in Washington but most of my family lives down in the Bay Area. I will have to check out that place the next time I am in town. I know exactly where that is located but haven't been in there. I appreciate you sharing with me that information.

Yours is a good suggestion. I checked out the ULA site and saw the straps, that could work in my case. I would like to know how that works out for you. I am curious how it feels to carry water that high, a bigger bottle would probably feel a bit weird since. But it must work, or they wouldn't offer the option.
