I want to make a new Hipbelt and I am looking for the padding material.
Anyone have any ideas on DIY materials for a project like this?

(yes, strangely enough foam is under hardware)
The FY20 is what you need. I have used it on a number of packs. 3/8 is pretty good thickness for a light pack.

I’ve been using mesh instead of foam for my waist belts. Fit trumps padding for me. Here’s a link:

Adhesive backed insignia cloth wrapped around 3/8″ closed cell foam makes a comfortable strap that can be made with no sewing through the foam.
Link below shows how I did it with shoulder straps but I think you’ll get the idea.
The adhesive backed cloth combined with foam results in a stiff, long wearing strap that holds its shape well. I’ve been using the ones in the link for over two years on almost a daily basis with little sign of wear.
