Has anyone used a windshirt with a trash bag (holes cut out for head and arms) as a rain gear set up?
Obviously it wouldn't keep me very dry, but I just want something to keep me warm.

Depending on your level of exertion, the lack of breathability of the trash bag may cause you to sweat through your windshirt and condensate on the inside of the trash bag, and then you'll be wet all over, and then potentially cold.
However, it may also be loose-fitting enough to breath and act like a sleeveless poncho, in which case your core will stay dry and warmer.
Better to try it first before you rely on it.
I use a plastic poncho that costs about a dollar and weighs an ounce.
Windshirt and short silnylon cape is what I use.
I may also wear windpants if my legs are getting cold and even wear my groundcloth as a skirt for another layer if needed.
I am going to a system that uses a GolIte Chrome Dome, trash bag rain skirt, windshirt, and the garbage bag I use as a pack liner to something similar with if I need to.
