Cool gear find – in my own house!

The fact that you could have forgotten an event bivy leaves me with class 10 gear envy.

I have for gotten my wife's birthday, sometimes forget that work pays the bills (since no one sponsors my hobby).

Since you have obviously abused this gear by not giving it fresh mountain air. I will have to report you to the gear police!

This could never happen to me. I'm such a compulsive minimalist that anything that sits unused for a year gets donated unless I have some future plan in mind for it.

My wife on the other hand seems to have hoarding tendencies. There is so much stuff piled up in the closets that, for all I know, she could have a full grown African elephant hidden in there and we'd never find it.

She's going to be away for the week, and I'm looking forward to the chance to do some serious purging of unused kids clothes and toys. Makes me smile evilly just thinking about it.

Don't get rid of that bivy just yet though. It's a fast and light adventure just waiting to happen.

I have a weird synchronicity with this. I've been doing some house cleaning and I couldn't find my old BPL quantum x bivy:

which was disturbing me. Then 4 or 5 days ago I got the brilliant idea to look in my tarp tent sack, and viola. There it was together with a few Douglas Fir cones, a bunch of pine needles and some dirt. Must be a case where I put the sack aside intending to clean it after a shower, or a night's sleep, and then forgot I had not. Guess the moral of the story is that if you have a bad memory clean you gear right away.

I am feeling suitably guilty about not using this recently, let alone forgetting where it was. I will have to use it a bunch this summer to make up for it.

I am, actually, thinking of getting rid of it. The bivy I knew I had is a TiGoat bug net bivy, modded to be the size of the Raven instead of Ptarmigan. I'd use that for any fast and light adventure waiting to happen!

Ah, but eric, I'm also way too heavy and obsolete, it's a perfect match…..

After reading this I decided to clean up and reorganize my own gear…in hopes of uncovering my own hidden treasure. In the end though, all I found was some cut up pieces of shock cord, scraps of tooling foil, bent paperclips and some empty Ziplocs… sigh….

However, now all my gear is put back in its place (for now…) and my wife is happy it is not lying all around the house! :)

I just vacuumed the couch cushions for the first time in a few months.

Found 47 cents, a pencil (definite JMT potential), a Snickers wrapper, various and assorted detritus, two jelly beans, a Chouinard Pyramid Tent (new with tags), a Pabst Blue Ribbon bottle cap, and a pair of glacier goggles labeled T. Norgay.

Definitely gotta go check under my mattress.

Just found two more silnylon scraps and some grosgrain I bought a while back.
Hopefully just enough for a summer tarp for my BPWD Minimalist 1! Win!

This is disturbing on art least three levels:

1) you have a gear room
2) The gear room has so much gear in it that you don't know what you got.
3) You can have a sweet bivy like that and not remember it
