I have a Garmin Colorado GPS that had corrupted software and its cursor would put my location 1/2 mile W SW of my actual location. Since it's about 5 years old Garmin sold me a refurbished Colorado 300 for $59. but required my unit to be returned to them.

The replacement should arrive tomorrow, just in time for a Coyote Gulch, Utah backpack trip on Thursday. Not bad service considering the age of the unit.

** A new Garmin Montana 600 would have set me back $470. AND REI won't let me have a 20% discount when it comes out B/C they don't give them on GPS units!! So all I get from REI if I buy a new Garmin is the usual 10% end-of-year dividend.

On a similar note my new Bushnell 10 X 42 laser rangefinding binoculars red digital readout could often not be seen in bright sunlight and when I complained to Bushnell they offered a swap with their even newer Mile ARC 10 X42 LRF which has more readable orange characters. Again, very good customer service.

These LRF binocs offer a "firing solution" for my specific ballistics as well as for extreme angles of depression or elevation of the rifle barrel. Only air density and wind are not figured into the readout. (Darn! Gotta get a Horus Kestrel Weather Tracker for that plus any corolis and temperature effect.)

From backpacking to big game hunting these devices make things simpler. As long as we are becoming more dependent upon electronics it's important that companies stand behind their gear for more than 90 days.
