Like most hikers I hate having to haul around mostly dead weight, in this case, a rain jacket. I wear an XLT or XXL so even the lighter ones are still close to 11oz. I could go lighter but don't feel like paying premium prices for a Zpacks or Antigravity gear to get there. Yeah, I am cheap. I am also trying to use skills more like staying under a tree when it is really pouring out rather than trying to hike through it. My thought was to use a $7 Coleman Adult poncho for temps above 60F along with my wind shirt. The poncho has plastic snaps along the sides and also has grommets in the corners so I can use it gently as a tarp for about half your body. It is not long on me, barely covers my bum and I can pair it with my tash bag rain skirt for better protection. I don't think it weighs but 5oz but will know more when I buy one tonight. I could probably stretch it even further down as my main insulation is a Patagonia R2. Any other thoughts or suggestions?
