Hi All! This is my first post here though I have lurked some.
I intend to go lighter on my day pack. Probably around 30 – 35 liter (main body) but flexible. Want enough space for winter hiking and snowshoeing. Doubt I would ever go over 16 lbs.
My build is lean so I want decent hip belt and shoulder strap padding. Comfort is one of my main priorities.
Need good side pockets for water bottles that are accessible with pack on.
Decent attachments for hiking poles, ice ax, etc.
Fairly water resistant would be nice.
It would be nice to have some type of mesh backing to reduce sweat but open.
Some that looked interesting:
Gossamer Gear Gorilla
ULA OHM 2.0
Golite Jam. I am not sure about the frameless concept???
HMG Windrider. Prefer not going this expensive but open.
I have tried an Osprey Exos 46 but larger than needed and somewhat heavier. The 34 does not have a padded hip belt.

Any advice on these?
Any better suggestions?

Do you ever have to carry a bear canister?

I went with a ULA Circuit because I do. I would have went OHM 2.0 likely otherwise.

Lighter than what. If you want a framed pack there are billions under 1kg but far fewer under 500g. And do you really need a framed pack for 7kg? Something with a stiffened back panel and well packed would suffice for most people. HMG is a good choice either way. I am partial to Crux packs myself. Slightly heavier but perfect design and materials IMO and superior durability. Check out the AK37 for framed or the RK30 no frame but very stiff back panel. Former is weather proof and latter is waterproof.

For a winter snowshoe pack, wouldn't you need or want a pack designed to carry the shoes? Once you strap snowshoes on to the pack, they weigh so much nothing else matters in terms of weight. So the carry option becomes the most important feature. You can usually rig something up on any pack, but packs designed for skateboards or snowboard are going to have the best built in straps; ski packs are ok. Winter packs are otherwise heavy, in part because they need a more substantial setup to carry the weight of skis/boards/shoes.

I do not need to carry a bear canister with this pack.
I am leaning most towards the ULA OHM 2.0 at the moment. Are you happy with the Circuit? Any concerns?
