Has anyone tried using these 2 liter (64 oz) aluminum beer cans, made by Asahi and Sapporo, as a large cook pot? If so, are they UL, and are they available in the US?

Chris, I tried the 1 liter version, and it was too weak once the pressurized liquid was.. uh.. 'removed'. It would not survive a day in my pack without being crushed; so I use titanium. Either the 900 or 1400ml Snowpeak pots.

Brett, thanks for testing one of these, all in the name of SUL R&D of course! I haven't seen the 1 liter can. Does it appear to be a similar design/strength to the 2 liter model?

The 1 and 2 liter are both made of thin aluminum, yes, both are not strong once empty with the top removed (as a pot configuration). The 1 liter looks like a big conventional can, no handle.
I think a better choice for heating water are the re-sealable 500cc aluminum bottles of drinking water. I've tested these as well, and they are more durable. Also, when stored full of water they are essentially crush proof. So you can carry and heat your water in the same container!

My GF was quite surprised to find the empty 1L beer can because normallly I dont drink much; she might have suspected I had an alcohol problem; I explained it was all in the name of BPL science..

    Brett.

http://homepage1.nifty.com/jsb/stovecorner/konro9.files/232808AA.JPG

Mr. Brett — hello, it is JSB from Tokyo Since the aluminum can is thin, if weak How is a means to pile up the can of the same size two or more sheets? Intensity for a side piece can be strengthened very much. It has put on my HP. Tips are heated to the grade which roasts over a burner the can carried out outside and in which an EKIPOSHI skin film burns. If it gets cold after that, butter will be thinly spread on the overlapping surface of a wall. two sheets — in piles — little by little A thick wooden board is carried, and it strikes carefully and piles up. A three-sheet pile was successful as a result of the experiment. Please make it reference. http: 232808AA.JPGhttp: [ //homepage1.nifty.com/jsb/stovecorner/konro9.files/]//homepage1.nifty.com/jsb/stovecorner/konro9.files/album 00001.jpg

If I read that correctly it's very cool. If not then I need to think about the use of the butter verrrry carefully. ;)
