I finally got around to removing some harder plastic-y grips on some sale carbon ski poles today. I thought others might like to know how easy it really was. This is not new information, just confirmation that it works.

I brought water to a rolling boil in an 8 quart pot and held the full grips completely underwater for around 3 1/2 – 4 minutes. I used a glove-style pot holder to twist the grip and it came off really easy. I shouldn't have been surprised that the adhesive would be that easy to dissolve/melt, but it was.

Now I just need to order those Gossamer Gear grips!

Do it. Their the most comfortable grips I've used.

Anyone know how to attach straps to the top like the LT4S?

I can sell you a set for $150. Of course, they're still attached to the poles…… :-)

I assume you would do the same for tips – has anyone removed the tips this way? I've never actually replaced any tips myself, but I have some very old poles where the carbide tips are pretty much worn smooth, and I probably should start.

I recently found myself liking a new set of UL poles so much I started worrying about it straight away, without even waiting for the tips to get worn down. Talk about having a gear fetish!
