Neoair Question

Polycro ground sheets… otherwise known as window shrink wrap film folks use to seal up drafty windows in the winter.

1. Cut down mylar space blanket
2. 1/8" CCF foam pad

Get the XTherm instead of the XLite. It's warmer, has the 70D bottom (much more durable–similar to the Prolite), and cost and weight even out over a more complex system with a 1/8" CCF pad for protection.

Oh, and I use polycryo as a groundsheet in my Duomid too.

I have a well earned distrust of inflatables but have given up trying to get a good restorative night of rest without one. My NeoAir short has lasted four summers including three long backpack trips using the 1/8" full length pad from Gossamer Gear underneath it and inflating it with no more than 13.5 puffs. I was out last weekend and doubled up a foam torso lite with a thermarest foam pad in prep for a longer hike later this summer. Horrible first night. I didn't know I had mistakenly packed the NeoAir, a mistake thorourghly enjoyed the rest o the trip.

I use a polycryo gc under my original, small, NeoAir. I would not call it fragile, nor is it robust. Like most of your more important pieces of gear, take care of it.

I am at about 30 nights used in a tent with a 30d floor with no groundsheet. No leaks so far. It has been a fantastic purchase. In winter I double up with a z-rest for safety purposes as a leak could become lethal at winter temperatures. For summer I am okay with a few chilly nights if I did get a leak and couldn't repair it.

Unless you are counting ounces I agree with Clayton. The XTherm for just a few more ounces provides a drastically better sleeping pad: Higher R-value and higher durability.

+1 what MG said regarding the mylar space blanket & 1/8″ CCF foam pad.

I use the “Adventure Medical Kits Sol Emergency Blanket” and a 1/8th pad from either GossamerGear or Lawson Equipment.

Surely the xtherm is just way too warm though for this time of year. What is it like to use in the summer?
