I searched, but didn't find what I was looking for , so if I just missed it, please just point me on the right direction.

I am newer to backpacking and have a small amount of gear. I have a EE RevX 20deg and a GoLute Bitteroot which work great in Michigan during the shoulder seasons, but seem to be to hot for summer. My dilemma is on what to get for the times when my current gear is too hot.

My first thought was a 50deg synthetic quilt and a synthetic vest. The reason for the synthetic is two fold. One, the weight savings doesn't seem as great for down at higher tens. Second, this would allow me to have more flexible gear since I could use the syn quilt as an overquilt in the winter to pull the condensation away from my down bag. Synthetic is also a great option for wet weekends.

Quilt – I have seen everything from a 50 deg quilt to a simple fleece ( 200 wt ?) blanket to just using a lined or emergency bivy.

Insulation Layer – I was looking at nano puff and montbell sun and down options, but all over the board.

What are your thoughts? What do you do?

I made my own 2.5oz Climashield Apex quilt and use a Montbell Ex-Light Vest at 3.75oz. The mountains up here usually stay cold enough in summer, but I do use it for places like the Lost Creek Wilderness, the Western Slope, and Utah.

I was actually thinking of making a simple quilt from apex, but have never sewed, so have been a bit nervous. What fabric did you use? I was considering m50 and nobul.
