I have been eyeballing the BD Megalight for a while and the recent review makes me like it even more. I do most of my backpacking around timberline in CO and NM.
Is this "tarp" require the use of bivy sacs for down bags? My bag has an Epic shell.
What are the basics in and outs of looking for a suitable site to pitch the tarp? I usually use my BD Firstlight, when I am solo, and select the site if it is relatively flat or soft.
I have weathered numerous storms in my old Marmot Nutshell where the water is literally lifting the tent off the ground running underneath. I am most afraid of the violent heavy thunderstorms that the rockies can produce.
I have looked at the REI UL Quarter dome at minimum it is still 3 1/2 pounds. I need something for 2 6 foot plus guys that I will sacrifice some weight for weatherproofness.
