I'm particularly curious about all that laser line. At ~0.4mm and 0.8mm for 50lb and 200lb break strength respectively, that could make some very nice shelter guylines…

Caution: stuff like Vectran is enormously strong, but suffers UV damage (and heat damage) and is very hard to tie knots in. Similar problems with Kevlar, Spectra etc.
On the other hand, Dacron is good. Not as strong, but strong ENOUGH. The Stuff with a PU coating is also good and the coating lets it take knots much better. With some of the coated strings you can even use a taut-line or prussick hitch. Very nice.
Yes, I have been using 0.5 mm line for tent guys for some time. It works fine. Make sure you don't get accidental (thumb) knots in it: they can be a *** to get out!
Yeah, the kite guys are nut cases, but they do have good string.

Being a kite nut, yes, we do have some good "string" :)
Spectra is quite UV resistant, unlike kevlar. Lines like these allowed sports like modern kitesurfing to exist.
