Boost mobile device battery chargers

I ran across these products, which provide various
means of charging mobile devices. There are solar, hand-cranked, and simple supplemental battery options. They look reasonably lightweight and versatile (micro-USB and USB outputs).

I used to carry a spare battery for my Droid. Since switching to an iPhone, I need something else. The hand-crank charger might also be a good thing to have on hand when the earthquake comes.

Reviews seem pretty good (at Amazon). Anybody here have first-hand experience?

I wonder if these could be paired with a battery charger to allow charging of AA and AAA?

You can add a battery to the iphone, check out the line of Mophie cases, they effectivly double battery life (and offer some protection). Good for a couple day trip. Any long and that wind-up solution would likely make more sense, interesting.

Those cases look good, but more expensive and don't have the fallback of the hand crank for emergency use. The Boost Turbine 2000 has the battery, plus an emergency option. Plus, they sell them at REI so I may take advantage of the upcoming Anniversary sale discount to get one, or maybe a few so I can give them to my kids, who don't have landlines and who also live in earthquake country.

It would be nice to be able to separate the battery from the generator. Then one could carry the bits necessary for a given length trip. The battery alone would work for me when backpacking, as I rarely go on long trips. But I'd like something for the weeklong campout that an earthquake might require.

I like the hand-cranked generator idea. Then you can charge devices anytime and at a far faster rate than solar trickle chargers.

From what I have read previosly, it takes a lot of cranking, i'll try to find the story.
