I'm shopping for a pack for my JMT trip in Aug/Sept – this is my first long-distance trek. I've been trying to wait to purchase a pack until I had all of my gear, but I'm finding I'm going to need to buy it a little sooner.
Originally I wanted the ULA Catalyst – but money is getting tight and I'm now looking to save money where I can. The REI Flash 65 (on sale for $106) and GoLite Quest 65 ($135) are both significantly less than the Catalyst($250), so I wanted to see what other experiences with these packs are and if the might be well suited for this trip.
I'm 5' 6" – 130lbs – and I'm shooting for a pack weight of 25lbs (or less!)
I think I'm going to be carrying the Bearvault BV500 – I was going to buy a Bearikade Expedition – but with money being tight, I may have to settle for the BV500. I talked with GoLite today, and they said the BV500 will fit horizontally in the Quest 65. Not sure about how it will fit in the Flash 65?
If a more detail of my gear list so far is helpful – I can definitely post.
If there are any other packs that are under $200 that would be better than these (on sale is always great, too!) I'm all ears!
Thanks!
Erica
