Most of us don't get as much time as we want to hike. The "microadventure" idea is a reference to Alastair Humpreys. I'm in college and it's exam week. I have two days between exams. Here's a short trip I've planned:
MONDAY:
-Hike 2 miles to car at 1630 6 MAY 13 (weird parking situation)
-Drive to the Washington Monument St. Park, Maryland to park
-Hike (maybe by headlamp) 3.7 miles south to Rocky Run Shelter, sleepTUESDAY:
-Hike to Appalachian Trail Conservancy
-Turn around, hike back to Ed Garvey Shelter (22.9 mile day), sleepWEDNESDAY:
-Hike to car (12.8 miles)
-Drive back to schoolHere's my gear list including food and average carried water: http://www.geargrams.com/list?id=13144
I'm taking 24oz of food. That's enough for me for Tuesday. For a trip this short, I would be fine (although unhappy) without food altogether. I'm not going to worry about food on Monday or Wednesday.
Expected Weather:
Monday: High 67F, low 56F, 20% chance rain
Tuesday: High 68F, low 57F, 60% chance rain
Wednesday: High 70F, low 55F, 60% chance rain, thunderstormsHiking alone in a limited period of time causes me to hike in one direction and then turn around in the middle of the day. I don't mind much though.
You might notice from the date stamps that I'm leaving tonight. Any last minute advice is appreciated. An extra set of eyes is always nice. Thanks.
Cheers,

May 8, 2013 at 9:15 am #1984395I got a bit worried about making it back in time for exams. I cut my trip short. I'm new to making/filming videos. Here's the result:

Thanks for the support.
May 9, 2013 at 4:26 am #1984724You got to hike through the mist, and sleep out in the woods. Sounds like a win to me.
