Time for some new shoes. I've been using the same old hiking boots for a few years. They were some mid-priced Timberlands that are worn out. I'd buy them again, however, I'm trying to find something lighter (isn't that always the goal?). I'm curious to see if anyone has any long term use with Merrell's Proterra shoes. Specifically the boot versions. I have some Merrell barefoot shoes and love them. I'm headed to Philmont this summer on an 81 mile trek and I'm looking as these as my boots. My base pack weight is 11-13 lbs. From everything I've read here, the trails are not super rocky. Reviews of the proterras all say they are great for all terrain but I don't know if that's for day hikes. Second question is how well do they dry once wet? Is this something you could totally submerge and be good to go in an hour or so?
