My wife and I are looking to start backpacking across some areas north of Texas. We're from the Dallas area, Rowlett specifically, and as there are some amazing places in South Texas, the drive North is considerably shorter for our weekend trip coming up at the beginning of May.
We're looking for a place where we can hike in to, set up a tent for a night, and then hike in a bit more, set up camp, and then hike back on the 3rd day. I've read about Stevens Gap being great hiking/camping, anyone been there? Any advice? We've hiked and camped a few places here in Texas, and we're hooked. We want a place with some great views as it's our 4th year anniversary and my wife demanded we go backpacking somewhere, I didn't argue at all. Ideally, we're looking for about a 3 hour drive anywhere, if you can recommend a good spot south, that's great, but any direction is perfect. Thanks ahead of time for any suggestions or help given, I've been a long time lurker of this site and finally anti-upped and got a membership. Looking to learn a ton while here.
