Luxury for my <20 mile trips. I have been meaning to whip up a pillow for a while. Just finished it in about an hour. It is made of 8D and 850 down, 3 baffled chambers made with 0.7oz/yd nanoseeum. Exactly 2oz of down fill, 19×13" 4.5" loft. Weight is 2.3oz, (interesting how the material including crossgrain is only 0.3oz). I am going to make another one to go over my Montbell UL pillow seen in the picture to see if I can get it up to an 8" tall pillow for under 5oz.

Nice!
this is something I have been trying to figure out as well. I just got back from a short overnighter, and definitely slept worse for the lack of a pillow. I have gotten good enough at judging temperatures that I never really have any extra clothing on these short trips to make a pillow with. I was thinking about a part insulation, part inflatable system, and then I saw your post!
a couple of questions;
it looks like there is a sleeve built into the pillow? is that for supplementing the bulk of the pillow? if so, it looks like the down would be compressed by whatever is in the sleeve becuase there is no "slack" between the layers.
is your plan to make another one with a sleeve to put the mb pillow in? how is the mb pillow without supplement?
and finally, 850fp down does not have much solidity to it, how does this effect its function as a pillow?
Adie
Yes, if I fill the pocket with too much clothing it does compress the down. I added a few tabs to the corners to attach to the MB pillow which does not affect the loft very much. The MB pillow is fine by itself, the vast majority of the time I use a cuben stuff sack with my extra cloths. I will probably use this setup for car camping as it is WAY TOO heavy.
