Anyone have any horror stories about this genre of product? I'm considering some .34oz cuben for an specialist UL tarp for a shortish multi day trip (with several road crossings in the event of an emergency).

No horror stories, but I've used .34 a little bit. If you expect fair weather it will do fine. Fair meaning not much wind. Most people don't have experience with it due to high cost and perceived short life span(compared to heavier varieties). The weight difference in this and .51 over something as large as a tarp is only about an ounce. Ryan
