I think he intends on offering his sleeping bags again when he can get through his back log of orders. It might be awhile though if things stay like they have been.

I asked Ron the SAME question a few months ago and his reply was that he is working on a few new summer bags and hopes to have something on his web site soon. I'm hoping he posts something soon so I don't have to try and make my own. I would just rather buy one of his great products or I will end up buying the GG sleeping bag after seeing it last weekend. Seems like a great alternative and a little more roomy.

There's a new note on the MLD site about a new bag being shown at Trail Days w/ further info appearing on the site in subsequent weeks.

Kevin E – I like the GG, but I fear it may be too warm for my intended use – which is HOT summer trips. Up here in Canada, after the igloos melt, it gets dang hot! I almost think I could get away with a bag liner or something of that sort.

I managed to purchase one of the early Devotion 40 bags that were never listed on the website directly from MLD last summer. The new ones may be different but mine is nicely built and reasonably warm, I've taken it down the low 40's without a tent and light wind. Mine came in at exactly 14oz, but it could be lighter since I added a couple of features like half zippers on both sides instead of just one. It does does have some drawbacks. The bag is definitely snug, enough that it took me some time to get used to it. Realistically the snugness is probably unavoidable if you want a bag this light. The other issue is that the insulation does not wrap around enough and I end up with a cold spot along the bottom edge when it gets colder. While extra clothing can fix the problem it can be awkward, especially in the thigh area which is where I seem to have the primary problem. Overall it's a good ultra light summer bag, but I may end up attempting a DIY fix for the bottom edge to fix the cold spot. Bill Fornshell mentioned sewing a down tube which sounds like a perfect fix for about an ounce. Keep in mind that all of the above may be meaningless if MLD has redesigned the bag. If you want some pictures let me know.

Can you give me your stats (height, weight)and tell us what size bag you got. I hope Ron's new bags are quite so snug. Seems like a tough choice between this and the GG bag but I guess we will just have to wait and see what Ron comes up with for the next generation bags. I was able to finally see the GG Sleeplight bag this past weekend and it will be my choice to purchase very soon for a summer bag unless Ron comes out with an improved bag.

Kevin – I am 6' and 188 lbs. I ordered a large from MLD, but in all fairness this is when Ron was at his most overwhelmed and this was not a production item yet. Keep in mind the GG bag is completely different. The MLD one I got is sewn thru not baffled. The MLD bag has a drawstring bottom that can be opened up (you can even walk around with the bag on and your arms sticking our through the side zippers). Also I paid about half of the GG bag price (I can't tell what the new prices will be). I looked at the GG one when I purchased the MLD bag and I still think the MLD bag is a better value. Also keep in mind that MLD is a custom shop and I'm sure they will adjust the girth if you want.
