Aside from the mouthful of the name this looks like a heavier but much cheaper alternative to the Cap 4 hoody and similar, but with full zip.

Has anyone seen one in person? The photos from REI make it look like it's a grid fleece, but I can't tell if the grid is on the outside or the inside of the hoody (if outside it's purely aesthetic and would be relatively worthless as a Cap 4 clone).

REI Outlet has them for under $42 (~$35 if you use the member 20% off for the outlet site) and I'm halfway tempted at that price but only if the grid patterning is on the inside.

I just wanted to update in case anyone else was wondering.

I ended up ordering one. With the cocona fibers performing similar to wool (absorbing and releasing moisture in a manner that buffers moisture and reduces flash evaporation in cold) I was really looking forward to this cheap cap 4 alternative. I figured I could have dropped an oz or more of weight by removing the characteristic adidas triple stripes.

Unfortunately the hoody was designed by a fashion instead of product oriented individual. The grid fleece was on the outside instead of next to skin. So it looked cool but completely negated the warmth benefits of the fabric by having the smooth face on the interior. Such a shame to because the jacket compressed small and used a different and more wind resistant fabric for the hood. It could have been a great piece if I wanted to wear it inside out.

So stay away and my search for a cheap cap 4 alternative continues!

If I bought it used for $5 maybe, but even for $30 it just wasn't worth it. Then I'd have the issue of all the exposed seams (they weren't flat lock seams) catching or rubbing which would lead to seam failures quickly… I'd rather spend my $30 on something else. Plus it's voting with my dollar, even on discount, buying it lets adidas and rei think they have have a product of value to sell, which they don't.
