Fanatic Fringe Quilt

I don't own it, but I appreciate the barebones construction because for me it is easy to add-on any extras I might need. I hate getting an overbuilt item and then have to rip it up.

I read the review here, but it was only one person's opinion. I kind of wanted to get a consensus to see if it would be the right product. I like the price of it, but it does not seem near as sophisticated as the Nunantak down quilts. The more I study, the more I find myself wanting to make my own but I have never sewn anything in my life and would be scared to buy the raw materials then make a bad mistake.

I own one. Nice product well made, but it is not wide enough for a side sleeper. Good sized footbox. The temperature rating is accurate if you sleep on your back.

I have one for sale on the cheap. It is a size long and made of the Polarguard Delta material. PM me if interested.

The Ray-Way Quilt is an easy-to-make kit that contains complete instructions and materials at a reasonable price. I recommend the Deluxe version; the DraftStoppers keep out drafts. I also bought a Bomber Hat and made that first. The experience making the insulated hat was useful in making the quilt.

It sounds like the Ray Way might be the way to go for a first time project for someone as inexperienced as I am at making my own gear. I read a story over at the Thru Hiker where a guy makes his own down quilt. I admired his perseverance but it looked extremely uncomfortable for the part where he has to climb in a tent in his living room and put the down inside the shell and then have the sewing machine in with him to sew up the quilt.

I have been studying the Nunatak down quilts. Reviews seem mixed. Everybody states the quality is great but there seems to be problems with the quilts not being wide enough. They will make you a custom quilt but charge extra for the service. One review I read here on the quilt that got the extra modifications was so high priced he refused to list what he paid for it.

The Fanatic Fringe quilt is affordable but it is stripped to the bare essence of a quilt.

Maybe I will try the Ray Way quilt.
