Titanium Alloy?

I don't know what the evernew is alloyed with, probably aluminum and vanadium, but I am pretty sure it is not commecially pure titanium. There are at least 324 alloys of titanium not including metal matrix composites. Other then a few applications in dental and medical it is always alloyed with something.

As far as I know … there are some aluminium alloys which contain a bit of titanium, but I am not aware of any titanium alloys which contain any significant amount of aluminium.

The most popular titanium alloys are 6Al-4V and 3Al-2-5V.
These designations refer to the percent aluminum and vanadium content. The other popular form is CP-2 sheet.
Titanium is a difficult material to fabricate with because of it's high strength to weight ratio and low ductility.
The addition of small amounts of other elements improves it's design characteristics whether it's ability to be formed,welded,or heat treated.
So ,you ask, what is your high end titanium bicycle made out of … probably one of the first two unless someone has accessed some soviet bloc country ti. What is your pot made out of … might be cp-2 sheet, might be spare chinese missle fins. Does it matter, unless it's accidently radioactive, no. Aluminum is still lighter. If a beryllium pot wasn't so darn toxic and a lithium one didn't oxidizes faster then you could boil water I would say go for one of these, me, I'm holding out for the Bozeman Carbon Fiber Kettle.

All Titanium pots are made from "Commercially Pure" Titanium, though at the low end of the purity spectrum, they are not technically alloys. CP Ti can be formed and drawn where as Beta, and Alpha Beta alloys of Aluminum and Vanadium do not take as well to forming and bending, and can not be drawn(the method by which most Ti pots are made). The alloying of Titanium with Aluminum and Vanadium is for strength, and heat treat ability.

My analysis of a FireLite pot shows the pot to be made of 97.64% Titanium, which places it in the “commercially pure” range. The handles of the pot are made from an Alpha Beta alloy consisting of 94.21% Titanium and less than 3% each of Aluminum and Vanadium. So the wire handle is an alloy, but the pot is not.

I don’t have an Evernew pot to analyze, but I’m sure it will fall into the same range as all the other pots, Which is CP Ti, not an alloy.
