Backpacker is decent if you live in the U.S and want to find potential vacation hiking spots. Otherwise, It doesn't mention much about preparation for thru-hikes or the like but does offer many great tips about safety and efficiency on the trail. It is not directed at ultralight bping, rather more traditional offerings to fit the mainstream. It is sad that they give no mention to the cottage businesses but im sure powerhouses like TNF and Mountain Hardware are paying their share to get a page.

I renewed for 3 years because it is excellent material to read on the porcelain throne! ;)

I believe that is what we call too much information.

I'm a huge fan of Outside Magazine…their stuff is top notch. Backpacker not so much – always disappointed in that one.

Thanks for the offer mate, there is no need to go to that bother.
I will check them out when I am next in a city newsagent.

    meh to both.

Even though I'm a grown-ass man (EASY you guys) my momma subscribes to BPer for me. "Just so I have something to read."

I agree with Dan- if I'm gonna be taking my time in the crapper I'll read it. Otherwise she's paying to fill the recycling center.
