How about an easy-to-ventilate, about 16 ounce quilt for above 35*, a 20* bag for 25* to 40* (I'm a cold sleeper), and combine the two for 15*? Below that, I go somewhere warmer due to a lower elevation, which is easy to do in my area.

Yes, I'm a gear junkie and a hoarder so I need some cold, clear, gear logic, outside of my own twisted psychology.

Or, wear a jacket or vest inside 35* bag for 25*, and a heavier jacket or vest for 15*.

I have a synthetic bag that's okay down to maybe 45 F with just base layer, 30 F with 4 oz Apex vest, and 18 F (several days ago) with a down vest that weighs 8.5 ounces.

Jerry's solution is similar to that seen on Ueli Steck in Mountain Hardwear's Mtn. Speed 32 sleeping bag development video. Ueli uses the 32F rated bag in conjunction with his alpine suit for sub-zero temps (according to the video at least).

UL Backpacking ain't 6km+ alpine climbing, but cold is cold.

Here's the vid: http://vimeo.com/42405899.
