Is this possible or just ridiculous? The arms fit as legs on me to above the knees, but I'd have to cut the torso part to somehow fashion the upper parts of the pants. Not sure if anyone has ideas / links….

This reminds me of the episode where Andy is imagining forgetting how to wear pants and has his arms and head in the legs and screams "what kind of monster am I?" Can you not just close off the neck, hoist up the torso around your waist and cinch the draw cord if it has one?
I think a picture of what you are attempting/you almost wearing it as pants would be helpful for us to give you tips. At the very least, we could all use a little amusement.
