I tried out my new EE Prodigy X 40 degree quilt in the back yard for a few hours last night. I was using one of Lawson's 1/8" EvaRest CCF pads with no bivy. I took a nap from 11-1 AM. When I came inside the temp was 42 degrees. I was completely comfortable and feel the quilt would easily make it into the upper 30s. I do think I would need more ground insulation if I was to use this quilt much lower. I prefer a Neoair but didn't feel like blowing it up last night. I am planning on trying it again tonight with the Neoair, the forcast is for the mid 30s was. I was wearing a cotton tee shirt and a pair of jeans.

Cotton??!!!! Jeans??!!!! The tragedy of it all………..
I know…not ideal backpacking clothes. Just happened to be what I had on at my house. I didn't bother to change clothes for my backyard test. I actually had no intention of going to sleep, just wanted to lay there for a few minutes and test the quilt.
I have slept on the 1/8" under my legs down to 28F "OK", with only light longjohn bottoms, fleece hoody , fleece beanie, thin 1.75 oz socks. Had a ~5/8" nightlight pad under my torso too. Didnt notice cold from the ground.
(My feet got the coldest, it was a test of my 40F down quilt)
I wasnt feeling the heat on my back, like I have with thicker pads however. It was about as far as it should be pushed was my determination.
Update…I tried it out again last night for a couple of hours. This time I had on 100 weight fleece shirt and pants, on a large Neoair. The temp was 35 and I was comfortable. Considering I normally carry a puffy jacket and bivy on my cool weather backpacking trips, I would not hesitate to try to push this quilt down to 30* degrees.
